Located on the Georgetown Divide in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of California, just a mile up Wentworth Springs Rd. from downtown Georgetown resides one of the most extraordinary labyrinths on the planet.  Join owner Rob Edwards and labyrinth designer and builder David Blonski for a weekend retreat on March 23-25, 2012 where you can learn all about labyrinths and feel at peace as you quietly walk its path.

The Abode of Peace Community Labyrinth

The Abode of Peace Community Labyrinth

Labyrinths have been used by man for thousands of years and were often incorporated into the floors of the gothic Cathedrals of Europe several centuries ago as a “walking path to peace” and represented a pilgrimage to The Holy Land.  The pattern used at Rob’sYoga Place is taken from the Chartres Cathedral in France that was built in the year 1201 AD.  The Georgetown design was modified by David for an outdoor space and is about nine times as large, measuring 125 feet across and made using 250 tons of Serpentine stones and boulders from nearby Bear Creek Quarry.

The weekend retreat begins on Friday March 23rd at 5pm with a meet-and-greet potluck dinner for the community followed by a video presentation on the Georgetown, Abode of Peace Community Labyrinth and a music performance by local recording artist, David Blonski.  Saturday and Sunday will be filled with yoga and tai chi classes, facilitated labyrinth walks with music, lectures on the myths and legends surrounding the labyrinth by special guest speaker Kayleen Asbo, a therapeutic evening music presentation and a labyrinth making workshop where you will learn how to make a labyrinth nearly anywhere.  All events are offered to Divide residents on a donation basis and you can attend one or all events but there are retreat packages available for those who want full immersion in our Labyrinth Pilgrimage offering and would like accommodations and meals included.   To learn about the Yoga Place, the Abode of Peace Labyrinth go to www.TimelessLabyrinths.com
